Merav Shinn Ben-Alon

Merav Shinn Ben-Alon engages in drawing on paper and site-specific installations that incorporate images and stories she writes. She explores the connection between the physical and narrative dimension and raises questions concerning issues of identity, gender and trauma.

Her artistic act employs personal and intimate work practice which derives from the viewpoint that "the personal is political".  Her aim is to touch on the "silenced". Via a survey of journalistic and media materials, she examines cultural representations and their interpretation.

The current work process is based on historical and artistic research that explores a singular period in the history of art through dialogue with the works created during a specific time and place. Her art can be summarized as a tracing of two different axes that feed off one another simultaneously: the first is a material, visual, sensual, and emotional layer that raises formalist questions, the second is a conceptual and critical layer that strives to initiate an artistic discourse and an examination of the art world.
